Joe Whitehead is a construction attorney who has spent his career operating at the intersection of law and large-scale project delivery. Before founding GC Counsel, Joe served as in-house counsel on complex infrastructure and commercial construction projects — the kind of work where every contract clause has a real dollar consequence, and where the difference between a good outcome and a bad one often comes down to whether somebody read the fine print before signing.

That experience shapes how GC Counsel works. We do not advise from a distance. We sit with our clients the way an in-house GC would — understanding the project, the relationships, the margins, and the schedule — and we give practical, defensible guidance that the people running the job can actually use.

Why GC Counsel exists.

Most construction companies have two speeds for legal help: ignore it, or call a litigation firm after the damage is done. Neither works particularly well. General contractors routinely sign contracts they have not read carefully, miss lien deadlines because no one was tracking them, and eat change order losses that were legally recoverable if someone had sent the right notice at the right time.
